According to many, the E-Tron already drives far better than any other Audi on the market (Unbelievable, right?). However, Audi being as restless as always, the German manufacturer decided to take it up a notch by introducing the S version of that of the E-Tron and the E-Tron Sportback. This version is a bigger, sharper, an even sportier version of the old E-Tron series.
The technology of these two new cars is quite different from that of the E-Tron. The brand new Audi E-Tron S and the E-Tron S Sportback are all set to provide lively action in all aspects. Along with being fully electric vehicles, the cars come equipped with three electric motors. Two of these electric motors with electric torque vectoring are positioned on the rear drivetrain, while the remaining one is in the front.
There are two different battery sizes for the E-Tron and the new E-Tron S. The E-Tron S gets a bigger battery pack producing 95 kWh for about 223 miles of battery range when fully charged, which is a little less than the 248 miles of the E-Tron. Obviously, more power also means a shorter battery range. The S variant as a power output of 500 hp and reaches 60 mph in almost 4.5 seconds while the normal E-Tron does the same thing in 5.7 seconds. Not bad, right?
Among other new features, the S version also has improved aerodynamics thanks to the new 2″ wide wheel arch. The main charging port is on the left side, providing an AC charging input of 11 or 22 KW, depending on the option selected and DC charging of 150 KW max. Obviously, a bigger battery also takes longer to charge. To solve this problem, The S model also comes with an optional charging port on the other side, which can only be charged with AC power. This is actually quite a practical option when the charging stations are on the other side.
The S variant also comes with better wheel options. Audi will let you choose between the standard 20″ wheels or 21″ and 22″ optional wheelsets. Furthermore, the E-Tron comes typically with an air suspension as a standard feature, but the new S models come with a standard stiffer air suspension system, whether you like it or not.
The S model also has an optional digital mirror system. You don’t have to go for them, but we can’t help but agree that they look quite fancy and also provide better overall aerodynamics.
The company is set to launch this new series in fall. However, the main downside is that the German manufacturer doesn’t have any plans of bringing the E-Tron S and E-Tron S Sportback to the States as of yet.
