NHRA Southern Nationals Drag Racing Event Cancelled

Cancel2020: NHRA Southern Nationals Drag Racing Event Cancelled in Atlanta

NHRA  has also announced the cancelation of the Southern Nationals Drag Racing event following discussion with stakeholders. The painful decision will overshadow the much-awaited 40th anniversary of the race.

One of the most significant drag racing events of the year was scheduled to be held from August 28th to August 30th at the Atlanta Dragway. Unfortunately, the decision was made, after numerous discussions, to cancel the event altogether, due to the current rise in Covid-19 cases in the US.

Kasey Coler, vice president of track management and operations, said, “It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of the NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway. This tough decision was made following numerous discussions with our stakeholders regarding the ability to host and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the race. Unfortunately, under the current circumstances, we would not be able to provide the event with a proper platform to honor and celebrate this historic anniversary.”

Due to the pandemic, three NHRA Mello Yello series races have already been postponed. Those include races at Topeka, Brainerd, Minn, and Denver. However, these races could finally be held depending on the situation, except for the weekend of November 7-8 and the US Nationals.

The Sensor Spark Plugs US Nationals is still scheduled between September 3rd and 6th at Lucas Oil Raceway. The famous Lucas Oil Raceway was scheduled this year with three events in Indianapolis. However, the US Nationals is going to conduct four consecutive racing events at the same track. According to the report, NHRA has confirmed scheduling it’s next event at Maple Grove Raceway, near Reading Pa, from September 11th to September 13th.

Drag racing fans were highly expecting the NHRA Southern Nationals Drag Racing 40th Anniversary event since it promised to be one of the main drag racing events of 2020. Unfortunately, to contain the spread of the coronavirus by following the government health guidelines, it had to be canceled.

However, NHRA will keep updating its events to event ticket holders through emails, or you can also keep yourself updated by visiting its official website for more information.
