Fisker Inc has committed to the Extreme E Electric Off-Road Series, which should launch in early 2021. The new electric race series, imagined by Alejandro Agag, a Spanish businessman, and motorsport investor, should be held in different extreme locations from the rainforest to the desert and even artic terrain. The Extreme E series is intended as a test for the off-road electric vehicle industry, including as many innovations as it can to be able to monitor what works and what doesn’t.
The off-road EVs built with unique features to be suitable to race on a wide range of terrain will be driven to remote areas, and drones will be used to cover the races. According to the current plan, the Evs are supposed to be driven through isolated regions of Nepal and Saudi Arabia, and they will be transported from one spot to another via ship. The Extreme E is said to be refitting a 7,716-ton former Royal Mail Ship, the RMS St. Helena, to transport the teams, vehicles, and equipment. If everything goes as planned, there should be 5 races in 2021.
The series announced that choosing to race in such remote locations was a conscious choice intended to demonstrate “the impact of climate change and human interference in some of the world’s most remote locations and promotes the adoption of the electric vehicle to help preserve the environment and protect the planet.”
The Extreme E off-road vehicles are full-electric with 400kw battery packs producing about 550 horsepower. Each EV weighs 1650kg and is developed on a 2.3-meter wide ODYSSEY 21 E-SUV framework, bespoke from the ground up. Moreover, the electric vehicles are said to go from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds, at inclinations of up to 130 percent, which is straight-up insane. There is simply no other car out there that could make such claims.
“We feel thrilled at the prospect of having Fisker Inc, a pure EV manufacturer, join Extreme E for the start of the first championship. Creating the world’s most sustainable racing series is the perfect launch platform for their new Ocean SUV as well as providing a challenging testing environment for product durability.” Alejandro Agag
Henrik Fisker, Chairman, and CEO of Fisker Inc, also appended: “Alejandro brought electric vehicle racing into the mainstream with Formula E, and I fully support his vision to reinvent off-road racing at the same time as creating an education platform for the threats posed by climate change. Extreme E and Fisker Inc are completely aligned in our mission and values.”
With all that being said, the Extreme E Electric Off-Road Series promises to be something we have never seen before. If you are a fan of off-road racing, make sure to set your alarms to these dates, so you don’t miss a second of the show.
